Athletic Heat @10: Lagos Is Getting Ready for a Big Day on the Track
Athletic Heat is turning 10, and they’re taking the celebration to the track. On November 7, 2026, Yabatech Sports Complex becomes the stage for a major anniversary meet bringing Nigeria’s athletics community together for speed, competition and history in the making. With the National Sports Festival ahead, athletes have another chance to test themselves, make their mark and be seen.
Ten Years of Athletic Heat. One Big Day Ahead.
For ten years, Athletic Heat has covered Nigerian athletics, told athletes’ stories and helped bring attention to the people driving the sport forward. Now, the organisation is marking that milestone by bringing the athletics community together for something more than a celebration.
On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos will host the Athletic Heat @10 Anniversary Meet. Athletes, coaches, officials, partners and fans can look forward to a day of competition with a clear purpose: to give athletes another platform to perform, gain recognition and be seen.
₦6.2 Million. And Plenty to Race For.
The prize fund is one of the biggest talking points heading into the meet. With ₦6.2 million raised through the support of individual donors, Athletic Heat is putting meaningful rewards behind its commitment to recognising athletic performance.
Most events will reward the top four finishers, while selected showcase events will extend recognition to the top eight. That means more opportunities for athletes to earn a reward for their efforts, and more reason to bring their best when competition gets underway.
Medals, Bouquets and Moments Worth Remembering.
The experience does not stop when an athlete crosses the finish line. Podium finishers will receive medals and flower bouquets, while professional podium and post-event photoshoots will help capture the moments that make competing worthwhile.
Hydration and athlete recovery stations will be available throughout the venue, and a dedicated event mascot will add to the atmosphere. Each feature contributes to Athletic Heat’s bigger goal: making athletes feel that their performance matters and that their participation deserves to be celebrated.
More Than a Meet. A New Standard.
Athletic Heat wants this anniversary to mean something beyond a single day of racing. Its ambition is to create a more professional, athlete-centred competition environment inspired by the presentation and experience of major international meets. Athletic Heat is currently looking for sponsors and strategic partners who want to support Nigerian sports, with opportunities spanning event branding, digital media exposure, promotional content and other agreed partnership benefits. Support can also come through financial sponsorship, products, services, media partnerships or other forms of collaboration. That support goes directly into the things that make the competition possible — from stadium and facility costs and officials' welfare to competition logistics, athlete medals, event production, photography, athlete experience and general meet operations.
That means paying attention to the details around the competition as well as the action itself. From athlete welfare to podium recognition, the goal is to show what a well-presented athletics meet can look and feel like in Nigeria, while creating an experience athletes and spectators will remember.
Ten Years In, It’s About Giving Back.
For Eseroghene Oguma, CEO of Athletic Heat, the anniversary is an opportunity to give back to the sport that has shaped the organisation’s journey. “The Athletic Heat @10 Anniversary Meet is more than a celebration of our journey. It is an opportunity to give back to the sport and create another platform where Nigerian athletes can compete, connect, and be seen.”
That message is at the heart of the meet. After a decade spent documenting the sport and promoting its athletes, Athletic Heat is using this milestone to create another opportunity for them to compete, connect and receive the recognition they deserve.
November 7 Is Getting Closer.
The countdown is on for the Athletic Heat @10 Anniversary Meet, and the invitation extends beyond the athletes competing. Coaches, officials, partners and fans will all have a place in a day dedicated to Nigerian athletics and the people who keep it moving forward.
